Re: DOTA Guide - Zeus (Theoretical)
Aghas is a fine item on Zeus, but you have to commit to it early. That means no later than, soul ring -> mana boots -> aghas (and sometimes it's even worth skipping the mana boots, depending on how the game is going - this is situational). If you get it sufficiently early, the damage increase can ut...

Re: Presenting: the silliest fucking game I have ever played on ENT
Omniknight bought Shiva's Guard. Ordinarily this would be a good choice, but the scourge is almost entirely magic damage; your armor is going to be next-to-useless, and the slow aura doesn't even affect the Death Ward (which is the only physical damage, until super pugna hit) Ironically, when Omni ...

Got Assists?
I found this game kinda humorous, if only for the assist count I ended up with.

Re: Suggesting new ELO system. Simple and concrete method.
In the presence of the ability to make new accounts, the only thing to do is to adopt some measure of player skill that stabilizes relatively quickly.
ELO is not such a measure. Pretty sure simple win% is a better metric.

Re: DotA Match-Making
re others: we should use trueskill / TSR (it includes not just a score/mean estimate but also a variance estimate, so new players start with high variance and the distribution moves more rapidly until gradually variance decreases); needs some development though Great to know you've already thought ...

Re: DotA Match-Making
Your example is quite bad, actually; your "ordinary" k/d ratio is already towards the upper-end of the bell curve; all one needs to do is use a resistant statistic (quantile rather than value) and you haven't disguised anything at all. I think it's pretty ridiculous to suggest that Elo is ...

Re: DotA Match-Making
A small sample size is better than nothing. elo is nothing until you have played enough games for it to stabilize, and that takes dozens of games. Smurfs obviously don't have much information to manage with, but you have to take what you can get. Unless you go out of your way to skew your own stats...

Re: DotA Match-Making
alright time to bring out the old dagon rikimaru build, I can get high kd therefore I am pro Obviously, there are ways to "game" the system no matter what metric you choose; I'm still pretty sure KDR-based matchmaking will do a better job on the whole of balancing games than Elo-based mat...

Re: DotA Match-Making
The new system seems promising, but I'd really ask that you use KDR rather than ELO for the balancing, or at least factor KDR in to some degree. KDR "converges" much more rapidly than ELO to a value representative of a player's ability, which greatly limits smurfing ability. Obviously, it ...
