Island Defense Writing Sample

Postby theorchero » Mon Jul 29, 2013 3:50 pm

So I came to this forum, having perused the site, to check if I was banned. Of Course I wasn't, which is always a nice surprise. Anyway, the reason I'm posting this:

Some time ago, I joined the effort to create a stand-alone Island Defense game, lead by Onahail at the original ID forum, as the Head Loremaster for the game. My job is to create the setting of the story of the game, and all of its backstory possible.

I posted the sample below at the ID forum (Original Link: http://www.islanddefense.org/forum/inde ... 9902ec28d0 ) but after most of the regulars had posted (All 10 of us, or so, the forums mostly dead :/) I still haven't gotten enough feedback.

I have a few notes to make before you read it

-This is old. Like Really old. I wrote this some 2-3 months or so ago.

-Most of the grammar errors/sloppy imagery was fixed a long time ago.

-This is what was approved by Ona to be released to the public, and may change dramatically. I will say that we have expanded upon what is written here in new ways, far more than I had originally anticipated. I am working diligently, and I hope that ona will let me share more lore with you guys. It isn't easy holding back :(

Posted here, it isn't formatted. I highly recommend reading the version at the link I posted above, it will make following the document easier.

PLEASE leave feedback and constructive criticism!

ISLAND DEFENSE

LORE/BACKGROUND

Lore Notes: I am also going to create titan-specific lore based on what happens (whether the titan was victorious (to an extent, on that one) or was defeated, what titan was chosen, etc.) Or had happened. How this will be implemented into the game is, as of yet, in question. That'll depend if we decide whether or not to add to the game a kind of original "storyline" or not.

MAP DESCRIPTIONS:

CLASSIC

Woe has befallen the hidden island sanctuary of Atlantis! An incredibly ancient and powerful being, the Legendary Titan Lucidious, has awoken from his ancient slumber, to discover an odd assortment of intelligent animals has taken up residence on his forbidden island. Once worshiped as a god, Lucidious grew in power and influence over the world as his followers grew and killed in his name. This did not occur unnoticed, however, for while the Lord of the Abyss was powerful, he had not yet reached godhood, and the world had Guardians still, though few mortals still followed them. The Guardians vowed to not allow Lucidious to obtain true godhood, for if he did,a darkness would shadow over the world and he would rule unchallenged.

The Guardians may have been powerful, but their strength had waned while Lucidious' had grown, and so they no longer had the power necessary to directly enter the world and slay him. Instead, they grouped together, and with all of their combined will, cast a powerful magic and entombed Lucidious on his island sanctuary in a deep slumber, to awaken nevermore.

To ensure Lucidious would never again awaken, the Guardians took it upon themselves to seal away his power, for good. Only the purest substance could handle such raw power, and so the Guardians gathered almost all of the world's supply of a useless, soft metal; Gold. They then compressed it in a super condensed, shimmering mound and imprisoned the heart of Lucidious within.

The Guardians, however, underestimated Lucidious. While they were able to imprison him, they did not count on him still being able to influence mortals even under their spells. Lucidious cast out on the winds images of his golden mound - creatures began to desire the rare metal, man in particular. These images sparked rumors, tales, and legends of a lost isle filled with ancient ruins and an even more legendary treasure: a Mound of Gold. With these tales, young men and other adventurers sought the find the island - None returned alive. Some say treacherous seas near the island took them, others say that the Guardians will that the island remain hidden.

The race of man, as it turned out, was not meant to be responsible for the freeing of Lucidious. Over time, as memories of the island faded and less and less except rumor of fantastic treasures remained, the island was rediscovered - but not by humans, or in fact, by any one race. It is not clear which one first arrived, but among them was the nomadic island trolls, the carnivorous murlocs, and a strange race known as the magnataur, hailing from somewhere far to the north. These creatures proved to be clever architects, building complex buildings and defenses while they settled down and explored further. Eventually, all members of the race found, at the heart of the island, an old abandoned temple, and inside it, they found the legendary Gold Mound.

They were easily won over by temptation. Through their greed, they conspired to take the metal and would thus doom the world. After the first hammer blow was struck, a great crack resounded. It was as if the world was cracked, and not the Gold Mound. With the Gold Mound cracked, it began to leak magic, the seal had been damaged. The island shuddered, the seas split, and upon the shores of the world tread a terrible force once again, and all throughout the island boomed a voice, "I have returned."

Lucidious soon discovered that his island had been defiled, and his entrapped power radiating from the gold mound. As he stood near it, he could feel himself regaining strength, but it soon reached a limit. He needed to feed; thus, it was then lucidious turned towards one of the trespassers and stretched out his hand and wrenched from the abyss of the victims' soul their life essence, and Lucidious began to recover.

However, no soul could stand to contact with a being neither as powerful nor as corrupt as the titan, and soon his outer form began to twist and deform into a mocking shape in an image akin to his dark master.

All throughout the island, a deep booming voice was heard, and then no more, a dead, twisted silence. The silence of those condemned to worse than death. The voice had uttered in a sinister sneer, "Join Me, or Die."

NOTE: The lore presented previously does not occur in a persistent world when compared to the other mode (6 vs 6), and as such, there may be slight irregularities, inconsistencies, or errors that will have to be ironed out or smoothed over later - All content tentative to change.

Other Notes: This is for luci in particular. In addition, this will NOT rule out lucidious as a pick for titan, how this is possible will be added into the lore later, although I am considering revising the original "map description" for classic mode (the partition above) as less-specific, and then add a small sub-chapter that would change it slightly to lean towards any specific titan choice.

6 VS 6 MODE (5 Builders + 1 Titan vs 5 Builders + 1 Titan)

On the legendary isle of Atlantis, a scream wrenched fourth. The builders had managed to slay the Legendary Titan of the Abyss, Lucidious; Or so they thought they slew him. The act of killing a being as powerful as Lucidious is not a simple one, nor one without consequence. An ancient Titan and virtual demi-god, it was only through desperation and the acquisition of magical gold that imbued the builders with unlocked potential that they were able to defeat him - at a price, however; their brethren that fell to Lucidious, those who bargained their souls for their lives became as twisted bodily as their souls had become. Upon slaying their former brethren and their new master, the world shuddered and scowled in pain - It was falling apart.

The Guardians once again sent fourth their power - They were determined that they would not allow the death stroke of Lucidious destroy the world no more than in his life. The Guardians knew that, while Lucidious' body had been slain on the mortal plane, his spirit lived on, for his heart still pulsed, deep within its shining prison, and thus he could maintain a semblance of natural influence in the mortal plane. They banished the Isle of Atlantis to a subtle plane of existence. Not on the mortal plane, nor in the mysterious Immortal plane, the birthplace of immortal beings (such as the Guardians and the Titans), they were sent between these worlds - to the Nether realm.

Not even the Guardians knew what beings might dwell deep in that dark abyss - and even they failed to foresee the drastic consequences their actions would have upon the island and all planes of existence. The banishment of Atlantis cemented the isle as the Hidden Island - one that could no longer be found by mortals, because it could no longer touch the mortal plane without extraordinary effort. The reasons behind the Guardians' actions was twofold.

First, it stopped the catastrophic backlash of Lucidious' mortal death, and second, it prevented access from other mortals to the island - so that Lucidious' could not be freed again by the ignorant greed of the mortal races. There were, however, unintended consequences. The Guardians, while powerful, were not Gods, and worse, knew very little about the plane they banished Atlantis to. Little did they know, that Atlantis was about to become the battleground for massive inter-plane conflicts.

Atlantis had become a bridge between worlds, or planes of existence, as the more powerful beings called them, due to its unique connection to the mortal plane, the Nether, and the strange unknown that is the Immortal plane. The connection was created when the Guardians banished Atlantis to the nether. It did not belong, and as such, maintained a connection to its previous plane; In addition, it also forged a connection between the island and the Immortal Plane, due to the heart of Lucidious pulsing gently within its golden prison in the heart of the island.

The Guardians themselves belonged into a plane all to their own - they were a power unto themselves, and while this gave them unprecedented capacity to prevent various disasters, this also made their actions often have unforeseen consequences, and as such, the mysterious island would become a warzone.

Powers from both planes, immortal and mortal, began to seek control over Atlantis. The Guardians had inadvertently created the only means by which beings from the "higher" planes could directly transport themselves to another plane, without diminishing their power significantly due to needing to control a mortal body. If malevolent beings managed to transport themselves directly to the mortal plane through Atlantis, no force would be able to stop them, because there would be no mortal manifestation to slay. The demi-gods of the mortal plane, while still mortal, wielded power close to that of immortals, sought even more power. They knew that the heart of an immortal beat at the center of the island, and should one manage to consume the heart and best Lucidious in a battle of wills, his power could be added to their own. It was a temptation, that they too, fell prey to.

And so it came to pass that various forces, while being mostly unable to send their own agents, began to court members of the various races to their respective causes, using beings from the islands now-native plane known as Demonologists. Masters of summoning magic, they were able to use their spells to communicate with their new respective masters, and upon seizing island, would be able to use that same magic to create a portal to the island.

The immortals wished to possess the island to use as a bridge of their dominion so that they might spread their influence. The Mortal Demi-gods wished to seize the island and use it as a inter-planetary raft to greater power.

The current inhabitants, however, were most displeased to discover that, after surviving the brutal attacks of Lucidious and his dark servants, they were now in the middle of a war zone of powerful beings. They needed a tactical advantage. They had already slew Lucidious by using shreds of his own magic to strengthen their own, so could they perhaps take that a step further?

Two groups of the survivors formed - there were those who wished to help the Immortals enter the island in exchange for them sending them home with them and banishing the spirit of Lucidious. The others wished to ally themselves with the mortal Demi-gods, in exchange for promises of power enough to protect themselves and their island from even the other Titans.

When the Demonologists appeared, members of both sides enlisted into their faction. With enough support behind them, each set of Demonologists cast, with the aid of their masters, incredibly powerful magic never seen before: summoning spells, not of demons, but that of Titans. The demi-gods would enslave them, the Immortals summon them.

And so it was that the Isle of Atlantis, banished between worlds, was wreathed in fire and destruction as reality was ripped under the terrible might of two Legendary Titans, their power akin to that of Lucidious himself, each side attempting to outlast the onslaught while their own Titan attacked their opposition.

RACES

TITANS

The Legendary Titans were essentially powerful elemental beings that became immortal. Where they originally came from is not clear, although it has been suggested that they were not originally immortal - they became that way.

What is known, however, is that the Titans, while primarily residing in a part of the Immortal Plane, also existed partially in another plane altogether - the plane of mortals. It is unclear if this is the cause of Lucidious' unprecedented growth in power.

The Titans themselves were much like mortals and their immortal cousins, the Guardians, in that they were in a sense, a group formed out of convenience. The Titans themselves had distinct histories and personalities, and often times would consider other Titans, although not actually so, rivals.

The Known Legendary Titans

The Legendary Titan of the Abyss, Lucidious

Lucidious is an older titan, by most standards. Although, these standards most likely take the space of, at least, tens of thousands of years. For if you are immortal, what does time mean?

He was born in the deep abyss of the cosmic ocean, and instilled with a will to dominate and subjugate those he could. He was especially effective at magically using water, his primary element, in creative ways - for example, he could render himself invisible to the naked eye, for a time. A favorite trick of his was to become invisible and wait for his enemies to risk their life and limb for their greedy goal, and then he would pounce.

Lucidious preferred the form to that of hideous and powerful creatures that dwelt deep within the sea of mortals, known as Naga. Strong, muscular, and lithe, these were the first followers and became his dark enforcers in the mortal realm.

He was mate and rival to Sypherous.

Sypherous, the Legendary Titan of the Abyss

Where Sypherous came from is not clear, although it is known that she appeared some time after Lucidious first walked in the mortal plane, and called the shadowy caverns in the deep ocean her home.

[Note: This particular sections development is now put on hold until more information about which titans are (or aren't) going to be in the game.]

BUILDERS

The island of Atlantis, following Lucidious' defeat, which was once populated with large temples and occult followers, began to fall into disarray when it was abandoned when the titan's former acolytes fled. Over time, the walls of the great temples fell and were overgrown, the braizers that were lit in the honor of their titanic god smoldered and went out. All civilized life was gone. The island had been reclaimed by nature, the cruelly elegant statues covered with vines, the precious stones placed within their settings began to crust with dirt and grime, their once shining light dimmed by the passing of time.

The island was protected by the Guardians - they were determined that no race, be it man, beast, or mer, would re-awaken the slumbering titan. The cast a powerful web of protection about the place, it became surrounded by a thick, unnatural fog, treacherous reefs, and tumultuous waters - No boat known to man would survive. The island became a graveyard of ships, and the slowly decaying corpses of drowned sailors became playthings for those who still dwelt beneath the sea.

However, it was not the race of man, and their inferior ways of sea travel that discovered the hidden island, but an odd assortment of intelligent creatures that stumbled upon the island -- while they were unique and varied, they all had something in common. They were fleeing both tragedy, and a strange crooning call towards a bright glimmer that now was in their minds.

ISLAND NOMADS

The Island Nomads were a very specific race of Trolls. Where most trolls were large, brutal, and stupid, the Island Nomads were small, smart, and intelligent. They also had an uncanny gift for tribal magic and were great craftsmen of boats and ships, and were very shrewd traders.

The Island Nomads (or as they called themselves, the Da'Wahn* Tribe) were very different from their cave dwelling cousins. They lacked the numbers or brute strength that other, larger tribes possessed, and were not warlike. They did not wish to conquer their brethren, and in fact, preferred peace. It was this belief that instilled in them their nomadic and spiritual nature. They used their knowledge of magic and architecture to construct small, fast, and nearly indestructible vessels - a feat of ingenuity that even the goblin inventors admired, and were very closely guarded secrets.

They used their boats to roam the island principalities and archipelagos at will, often discovering small, powerful artifacts on hidden coastal islands that they traded for supplies and coin. They became very shrewd traders, and were often sought after for cures, either for ailments or nuisances, whenever they docked in a port. They became very successful and established many viable and lucrative trade routes between coastal provinces previously separated during the cataclysmic events that surrounded the arrival of a Legendary Titan.

Their wealth and success led them to becoming prideful and forgetting to submit the proper offering to their ancestor spirits, the source of both their magic power (and thus, the near invincibility of their vessels) and their most closely guarded secret - how they found their ancient artifacts. Their ancestor spirits were very magically attuned to both nature and tribal heirlooms. This allowed the Da'Wahn to communicate with their living descendants, providing them with magical protection and sensitivity to both sources of magic and danger, allowing them to navigate treacherous reefs and waters previously inaccessible to other races, allowing them to tap into resources unexploited by other races.

However, the prideful Da'Wahn began to dismiss their ancestors, instead preferring to believe that it was their cleverness and skill, not the magical intervention of their ancestors, that was the source of their success and wealth. And thus, despite the warnings of their shamans, stopped the tributes.

This was the cause of the downfall of the Da'Wahn tribe. Their fortune failed them, their once unsinkable ships began to fail at the slightest breach, their ability to sense magic was gone, and their uncanny knack for avoiding danger upon the seas had reversed itself - Places where any seasoned Nomad sailor would swear would be placid turned out to be shallow reefs, and nomad sailors often found themselves avoiding placid waters in turn for tumultuous ones. Ah, but this was not enough, their ancestors were very angry, but decided to give their descendants one last chance for redemption.

That chance, as it turned out, ended up being far more cruel than their ancestors intended. Several months after the strange tragedies involving the Da'Wahn broke out, almost none of the nomads took to sea. They were afraid, and thought that their ancestors had betrayed them (much to the chagrin of the ancestors, no doubt) and stopped trading or searching for artifacts that were the livelihood of their clan. One did, however. A powerful shaman.

The Da'Wahn shaman was an expert at sensing both magic and the mood of the spirits. He had known why their magic had begun to fail them, but could do nothing for it. Only help to end the need for their constant travel and thus their dependencies on their ancestors, which he doubted, his kin were likely to go back to under the circumstances. The shaman had awoke the previous night in a cold sweat, from a waking dream. He had received such dreams before, they were always the way the ancestors chose to communicate with him, but never as strongly as this. He dreamed of the safety of his people, their salvation. It took form in a shimmering gold mound, with a massive torrent of magic laying untapped. A new source of magic, fortune, and glory awaited him at a shrouded island, covered with mysterious ruins.

The shaman thought this was an act of pity from his spirits. It was not. While spirits may of intended to send them to their deaths, they did not anticipate the interference of another being, far more powerful than themselves.

The shaman demanded his vessel to set a direct course in the middle of the ocean, far beyond the Dread Archipelago, the source of most of their artifacts, and deep into the Dead Sea, which was so violent and so large that many claimed not even a Nomad vessel could cross it, even when they had their magic. In the middle of this ocean began turmoil. There were thick bouts of caustic fog - if not for the shaman's profound magic that he could render on his own, his ship and crew would of been steamed alive, or torn asunder on the deep ripping tides that surrounded the hidden island of Atlantis, with a pulsing golden light at its heart.

Their ship should of sank. In fact, it nearly did. But for some reason unknown to the tribe, their magical enchantments on their vessel seemed to be restored, at least long enough for the crew to abandon ship and swim to the island in the distance, their tattered vessel lounging about on shards of rocks coming from a reef. Upon surfacing on the island, the nomad shaman began to hear a soft crooning. Ordering his crew to make camp, he ventured alone into the thick forest, towards the sweet music, and the soft golden light awaiting him in the heart of the lion's den.

MURLOC

While the nomadic trolls walked the islands and crossed the seas, there lived another race of aquatic nature. The origin of their race is not clear, although it is known that they pre-date most current civilizations, although due to both their reclusive nature and their remote habitat, they seldom came in contact with any other races, except to feed on those shipwrecked near the shallows of remote coral reefs.

Most would call murlocs sly, quick, and unnaturally aggressive. While most murlocs wouldn't hesitate to kill humans or other races that wandered onto their territories, they hardly started out as the aggressive abominable nuisance they prove to be to this day, shoring up on various lands, establishing footholds, and playing havoc with the local populations.

Before the cataclysmic event of the Legendary Titan appearing on this plane, the murlocs were a relatively peaceful race, and although they were reclusive and would sometimes undergo cannibalistic rituals with dead enemies, they never sought out those who were not at war with them.

Murlocs are intelligent creatures, reclusive from outsiders, but very closely connected to their kin around them in a very unique way. Although their skill with buildings and architecture is limited, they were fond of crude but effective means of defense, small buildings with hidden murlocs firing enchanted darts were a favorite staple of theirs.

The murlocs were in a perpetual state of war with another aquatic race known as the Naga, vile mer who lived within the depths of the ocean, but they too, like the murlocs, could tread land and breathe the air.

Murlocs were neither as skilled in building or in magic as that of the other races, although they dabbled in both, their race did possess a unique ability - The ability to see into other mortal or immortal planes. They achieved this by exploiting a magical phenomenon within the murloc race - a slight magical connection existed between a murloc and his respective clan, and to an extent, to other murlocs in a fairly large area. The shamans, known as Seers, could tap into this magical network of energy and harness the combined spiritual sensitivity to coax a vision of another plane - sometimes their own, in which case they could see a possible future, or another plane, in which case they could seek advice or aid from more powerful beings than themselves.

The naga had nefarious plans for the murlocs and their abilties, and soon went to war over their island home, thinking that the location was the source of the magical phenomenon that is the connection between the murloc race.

They were far stronger and faster than the murlocs, though less in numbers. Eventually, the murlocs had to rely increasingly on their creative and clever use of tactics and magic to give them an advantage in the skirmishes. Despite these clever tricks, eventually they lost control over their island, and in the final confrontation, their master Seer was taken captive.

It was now when the true and terrible purpose of the naga was revealed - they used their own magic, thrust it deep into the heart and soul of the Seer, and by extension, to all the murlocs on the island, and ripped the magic from within the Seer and combined it with their own. What they did with such unnatural power was brilliant, beautiful, and terrible. They forged a dark pact between themselves and their new god - they would bring him into their world, to inhabit the body of the Seer and to lead them into glory in his name; And so, the Legendary Titan first took possession of a mortal vessel in this realm.

The occupation of a Titanic demigod into their Seer had a traumatic effect on the murlocs. The Seer's body became twisted, deformed, and grew to an image of that of the dark Naga. The murlocs, on the other hand, became essentially rabid. They lost their unique connection between themselves, could no longer sense the slight tingle of magic whenever another of themselves was around. They were aimless, directionless, and aggressive. Having lost their home, spiritual leader, and magical link, most of the murlocs drifted away, abandoning their last footholds on the island to emerge on other shores, to find a new home and to destroy those who would stand in their way.

There remained, however, in some deep subterranean caverns beneath the island, a small sect of seers and other murlocs who had been meditating survived. Too deep to feel the magical shockwave pass through their link, they remained essentially unscathed from its titanic corruption. Instead of it being broken, leaving them rabid, it was changed, transformed, twisted, but in a way they could use. The Seers soon discovered a unique ability they had gained - they could will themselves to each other, at the expense of strength.

The remaining murlocs knew, that with the majority of their brethren being scattered, they had no chance to reclaim their island home. So instead, they elected to have their Seers enact a spell of deep sleep upon their people.

And so they dwell, deep beneath the rising tides, housed within their magical constraints of perpetual dreams, awaiting the day when the new tide comes, when they may retake their island from their enemies, and banish the foul power that has their island in its cruel grip, even if they must fight them with stolen magic.

DEMONOLOGIST

There are creatures that are immortal, there are creatures that are mortal. There are also creatures that exist somewhere in between. Demonologists were the result of a twisted act of creation by the beings inhabiting the dark Nether realm. Little is known about them, except that they are many, and are referred to by their servants as simply "Great Masters." It is unclear how many there are indeed, but the actions of their servants seem to imply petty rivals and struggles for power much like that of the Titans, though they do seem to have one singular goal in mind, unlike the Titan's diverse, if universally unpleasant, goals; the enforcement of Chaos.

The Nether realm is, quite simply, a void. It is the place that is in-between. The various realms exist in a persistent space within relative terms, but are separate from each other. The space between the different realms is known as The Nether, it acts as a conduit for flowing magic between the planes, allowing spellcasters to access magic, and the passing of souls to the next realm. It is also the home of demons.

Demons are foul, twisted creatures that serve those who have the will to summon them, and live within the nether as energy, and only take form when they are summoned to a plane. They are typically aggressive and dangerous, and resent being controlled, even by their masters within the Nether itself.

Demonologists, the result of dark experiments, were never natural. In fact, they were perfect for the ideals of their masters, for they represented chaos and contradiction. They were formed by fusing together the soul of a demon and the soul of a human. This created a unique creature and had many advantages over other of the Great Masters servants. The fusing of the souls gave the creature peculiar abilities. As demon-kin, the Great Masters could still maintain control while they were within the nether realm and as possessing at least some shred of a mortal soul, they were able to pass through at will through the magical barriers between the planes of mortality and the nether, without the previously required summoning ritual being performed by a spellcaster on the other side.

With their unique ability to pass through the realms at will, the Demonologists, masters of summoning magic, became very useful enforcers for their masters. They were able to bleed through the nether borders into the various planes, and then could provide a magical breach for other demons to come through. The Masters used this to enforce their will: Chaos. They feed off it. They used their various servants to encite war and conflict, only interfering to tip the balance when it appeared one side was gaining too great an advantage. Their goal was ongoing conflict, not victory for anyone, and thus whenever the Demonologists appeared, bearing strange gifts, offering innocent deals, all knew that strife was ready to claim those who accepted.

And so when the isle of Atlantis appeared into the void that is the nether, a great plan was formed. The Masters sent fourth their demonologists onto the island to offer the Titans and the mortal Demi-gods gifts, and a deal. The ongoing conflict would feed them power, both from the fighting and from leeching energy from the titanic spirit housed within its golden prison.

Whatever price would be paid, or deal may be struck with friend or foe, it is known that magic has its price, and any deal involving souls will take its toll.

MAGNATAUR

In the deep cold north there exists a frozen tundra, thick sheets of ice and snow with barely any pockets of dull green growth to support wandering life, a small tribe of strong and hardy people survive. It was settled when they were forced out of their land by alliances of warring factions stronger and larger than themselves.

Weak and hungry, the small tribe wandered in the snow in search of game, food, and shelter. Eventually, they stumbled upon a remote, icy cavern deep within a mountain pass. How they found it, remains unknown, although it is possible that forces greater than them had a hand in their discovery, and ultimate transformation.

Within the complex system of ice caverns was a small well, looking like it was made out of engraved, flowing ice, filled with a small pool of slightly glowing water. The walls of the cavern were lit with a dim, blue light, and left a pale reflection upon the surface of the bright pool, reflecting like polished glass. The small tribe settled within the cave, and when the fire was lit and its small flickering light danced in the moonlight, the first tribesman drank of the secluded pool, and sealed the fate of his clan.

The strange water was incredibly cold, but none the less filled them with a strange, glowing warmth - the warmth of magic. The pool was actually a mix of melted glacier and liquid magic that had seeped from the immortal plane during the summoning of the Legendary Titan onto this plane. Such a summoning can cause dramatic effects on the plane itself, and here, at the tip of the world where the barrier between the planes is thinnest, a small leak emerged, and magical energies had begun to flow and become frozen within the ancient glacier. The effect on the tribe was subsequently significant.

For not only were the magical energies seeped from the immortal plane, but they were from a titanic being. Glacius, the Legendary Titan of Frost, an ancient water elemental of vast power, had been exerting his will on this plane for a while now, in an effort to transform it to his liking - a vast, barren tundra. Thus the magic that the tribe had consumed was titanic in its nature, and thus was very chaotic, violent, and incredibly potent.

The effects was devastating. Even that small concentration of titanic energy, being directly absorbed by a mere mortal, caused massive changes within both the physiology and their power. They were now creatures of magic - now, better known as Magnataurs.

The Magnataurs are a very strong people. They are magical in nature, due to their twisted consumption, and thus have an affinity for frost magic, but at a price. With their transformation came strength, stamina, and the ability to survive this harsh land. Also, with it, came a massive transformation of their appearance to creatures akin to that of the hated Centaurs, and a dependency of the source of their transformation, magic, in particular. Such strong magic has a very sudden and intense effect, to the point of becoming both necessary to maintain their strength and addictive.

Despite these setbacks, the new race was determined to become successful in their unwittingly new forms. Their affinity for ice magic gave them particular control of their surroundings, they learned to shape and form the ice around them to shapes they desired. They became proficient builders, and constructed entire houses and other buildings out of ice, and imbued within the ice, lay dormant magic, giving them a slight blue glow and fulfilling their need to be near a magic source.

They learned to fashion tools for use for cutting and chopping of ice and game - they dipped iron spikes into the water and allowed them to freeze, thus leaving them with nearly indestructible magical tools for various purposes.

Eventually, however, as with all addictions, especially those of magic, they became harder to fulfill, and as their numbers grew, the small pool that was the source of their transformation ran dry. The Magnataurs needed a new source of magic, and it couldn't be just any magic, it had to be titanic in both nature and amount.

And so when a troll nomad brought an artifact, a small golden coin carrying a trace of a new type of titanic magic, the Magnataurs gained hope. Paying handsomely for the coin, they then constructed a great vessel made of ice, imbued with their most powerful magic enchantments. Keying their vessel on the coins magical signature, they sailed it in the direction of the source of the coins power - Towards hope for a better future, for if they could find a new, powerful magic source, their people would survive - and they would do anything to ensure that would happen, even if they had to slay a titan himself.

ABILITIES

Escape Abilities

Northern Winds

The Magnataurs call upon the winds of their northern tundra home to carry them swiftly and secretly to safety. Provides temporary invisibility and movement speed boost.

Frozen Pike

The Magnataur is equipped with his trusty Frost Pick, a pike dipped in the magical pool and then frozen. It provides a strong slow poison effect to the magnataur's strikes.

For people who aren't familiar with orc's trolling: That project is like 10K years old and the only process we saw are useless writing samples.

By the way, I suggest using bbcodes for your wall of text.

That particular idea was more or less scrapped.

Like I said, this is old.

I'm not trolling. And I really hate having to re-bbc the whole thingb

ut, I guess I'll do it eventually.

And the game Is still in development. You have my word on that. We have a team of over a dozen people, and the project is going full steam as soon as the servers get online (This week.)

edit: Also, it hasn't been in development for long. 3 months or so. KR was a completely separate project.

Servers go online this week for what, is this still just a discussion about Island Defense lore? There is no point, first off it's just a WC3 custom map, it's popularity slowly died out to whats left of it now. Unless the game goes fullscale by itself {which is nearly impossible after blizzard being pissed about DOTA 2} then there is no need for a lore, people need the game to work, not a backround to it, and if you haven't quite noticed, the map still needs to be fixed.
Got it memorized?

It's a stand-alone game - no bnet/wc3
