[4.0.0][0102] "The Balance Update" - Current Version

This version will be focused entirely on bringing us a little closer to having a balanced and fair game. Arguably, Island Defense hasn't been balanced for a very long time so I'm sure there'll be a lot of discussion generated between vocal players in the community.

For now, please post in the 4.0.0 Balance Thread. I'll be heavily moderating this post to keep it on topic.

I've already moved some posts from the development threads in here (@Lynx and @Burn).

I'll post more information here as it comes in.

  • Fortification Auras no longer stack:
    • Magnataur's Fortification Aura
    • Heavy Cannon Aura
    • Makrura's Protective Scales Aura
  • Fixed Nature and Radioactive's Workers upgrade change being reverted.
  • Fixed Titan Hunters getting duplicated upgrade effects when respawning.
  • Fixed Murloc, Makrura, and some Radioactive towers dealing splash damage that could kill wards.
  • Increased the size of Glacious' minions.
  • Fixed a spot at Broken Fountain Base
  • Reduced the Selection Scale on Morphling's Towers. They should now take up less of your screen with green bars.
  • Tower Tooltips now state their Attack Cooldown value rather than their Attack Speed category.
  • Halloween is over!
  • Fixed a bug causing the optimizer to break. The map should load a lot faster again now!

0102b Changelog:
  • Fixed Glacious' Minions having a ranged attack still.
  • Fixed Titan Hunters getting Siphon Mana over Blink by default (the reverse should be true).
  • Minor terrain tweaks.

0102a Changelog:
  • Fixed Murloc's Flaming Arrows not always working.
  • Fixed tower tooltips after balance changes.
  • Fixed Bay Base having messed up Doodads.
  • Fixed Trees turning white when harvested by Demonologist or Radioactive.
  • Fixed Ogre's Artillary Upgrade not reporting the correct upgrade level.

0102 Changelog:
  • Bugs
    • Fixed Champion Harvesters having an incorrect last and second to last lumber upgrade.
    • Fixed Murloc's Dart Tower being in a weird position in the build menu.
    • Fixed the gold return value on Gauntlet's of Rage to 40g (from 65g).
    • Fixed Demonologist's Mana Upgrade not working if you were a Resistant Demonologist.
    • Readded the collision of Sypherious' Tidal Stalker (Level 1 summon).
    • (Hopefully) fixed map not revealing properly for minions sometimes by increasing the visibility duration to 1s.
    • Radioactive's modules can now be bought like Turtle Scales (ie. they spawn by the Reactor and can only be bought by the owner of the Reactor).
    • Made it impossible to random Demonicus' Ultimate as Pseudologos.
    • The "-ban" command will now only work after the game mode has been decided.
    • Fixed Faerie's Mana Flare ability not being on the main unit (since hunter was removed).
    • Fixed Current Tap not working when a Defender took over the Titan using the -titan command, or when a minion took over.
  • New Features
    • Titan's now always get 15 gold, whether they pick or random.
    • Defender's now always get 70 wood, whether they pick or random.
    • New Titan Item - Gauntlet's of Fury
      • Requires Gauntlet's of Rage + Fiery Claws + Recipe
      • Merges the two items together and adds a +10 damage bonus
      • Added to second page of Recipe shop on the "D" hotkey position.
    • Titan Hunters, where applicable, will now automatically spawn with Blink, Siphon Mana, and Nitro.
    • Punish now removes the minion grace time from the targeted minion. This means it will be able to attack and will lose it's invulnerability before the 5 seconds is up.
    • Walls now no longer require a shelter to be built.
    • Tauren's experience gained for "poking" the Titan is now 3/4/5 when the titan is up to level 6/up to 11/12 and above.
    • Lightning Effects are now disabled by default (-nolightning command has been removed).
  • Balance
    • Titans
      • Reduced cooldown time on Tomes of Health and Damage for the Titan.
      • Reduced cooldown time for Tome of Retraining to 1 minute (from 5 minutes).
      • Changed Voltron's heal to give you a flat amount of healing when cast, with static sphere's granting extra healing later.
      • Reduced Wand of Neutralization's gold cost to 10 (from 15).
      • Increased range of bounce nukes to 500 (from 400).
      • Buffed Minion Windwalk movespeed to a 20% increase (from 10%).
      • Fiery Claws gold cost reduced to 20g (from 25g).
      • Increased AoE of Lucidious' Island Vision to 3000 (from 2500).
      • Bubonicus' Nuke now has a 0.5s cast delay (from 0s).
      • Reduced the stun duration from Bubonicus' Nuke to 0.25/0.5/1.0s from 1.0s/1.5s/2.0s.
      • Increased the cooldown of Bubonicus' Heal to 9 seconds (from 5s).
      • Reduced the mana drain on Demonicus' Shadow Walk to 15% of the distance travelled (from 25%).
      • Buffed all Minion's movement speed to 350 (from 340 - all Builders by default are 340).
    • Defenders
      • Buffed Gold 2 Lumber to 600 lumber per 5 gold (from 500).
      • Reduced Wand of the Wind (Builder) gold cost to 5 (from 10).
      • Reduced Staff of Teleportation (Builder) gold cost to 10 (from 15).
      • Polar Wrath
        • Reduced the extra HP gained in Polar Wrath to 600 (from 1800).
        • Reduced duration of Polar Wrath to 80 seconds (from 160s).
        • Reduced cooldown time of Polar Wrath to 240 seconds (from 450s)
        • Removed the bonus 5 armor when in Polar Wrath.
      • Reduced the lumber cost for Nature and Dryad's RC to 150 (from 200).
      • Made Ogre's Fart castable without a delay.
      • Reduced the attack range of Super Frigate and Mega Frigates by 100 (from 800 to 700, and 900 to 800 respectively).
      • Moved Venomous Spear to the correct "R" hotkey position (woops).
      • Re-enabled Murloc Long Darts.
      • All Morph Towers towers buffed by 5 damage.
      • Reduced the lumber cost of some ARCs.
        • Tauren's to 1750 (from 2000).
        • Draenei's to 1250 (from 2000).
        • Morphs to 1750 (from 2250).
      • Buffed all Enhanced level and above Makrura Tidal Guardians with +5 damage.
      • Murloc + Makrura reduced cost of megas
        • Megas now cost 450 (from 500).
      • Demonologist's Sacrifice upgrade now costs 5 gold to research.
      • Gnoll's Sentry Ward now only provides movement speed by default, a 5g upgrade is required in order for the ward to have Truesight.
      • Magnataur now starts with Wind Walk. His frostbite is researchable instead.
      • Reduced the starting Agility and Strength of Nature's Titan Hunter to 30 (from 40).
      • Increased the amount of Agility Nature's Titan Hunter gains per level to 5 (from 3).
      • Nature's Hunter now takes 100 seconds to train (from 180).
      • Increased Tauren's base armor to 7 (from 1). This does not effect the Tauren Champion.
      • Reduced Pirate's Towers damage by 5 at all levels.
      • Increased the cooldown of Troll's Voodoo to 180 seconds (from 120).
      • Removed the tech restrictions on Magnataur's Ice Water and Morphling's Mana Vial.
      • Reduced the gold cost from Morphling's Mana Vial to 1/1/1 (from 1/2/3).
      • Added Mana Vial to Faerie.
      • Buffed Faerie's Mana Flare ability. It now grants +50 armor, lasts 5 seconds (instead of 30), and has a cooldown of 30 seconds (from 60s). The maximum damage cap has also been raised to 1000 (from 300) and the range has been increased to 400 (from 200).
      • Increased the cost of Magnataur's Arctic Glacier Wall upgrade to 2000 lumber and 10 gold (was 500 lumber).
      • Reduced the lumber cost of Magnataur's Arctic Glacier Walls' to 250 (from 350).
      • Reduced the upgrade effectiveness of Demonologist's Demonic Strength on Balthasar. Now it grants +10 damage, +2 armor per level (from +20 damage, +5 armor).
  • Terrain Changes
    • Bay Base has been buffed.
    • Minor terrain changes to Bottom-Left area.
    • Minor terrain changes to Broken Fountain Base.
    • Modified the terrain around Euro a little (from IDTitan's suggestion).
      • Added a path going from the far right to top-right.
  • Misc Changes
    • Reverted the change on Glacious' Minion's Model
    • Àdded the Flaming Arrows effect for Murloc
    • You can use the "-gs" command to be shown a count of how much gold the builders have gathered from the Titan's Gold Mound (WhiteObama's idea).
    • Added a Fiery buff description to Fiery Claws.
    • Àdded the Electric Current effect for Makrura.
    • Observers and Minions can now use their respective chat sounds.
    • The "Random Builder" unit in Unique Pick mode now contains the randoming information from the item.
    • Halloween Spookiness

Can we have these commands?

"-AttackSpeed" or "-as", displays the current attackspeed value of the selected unit.
"-MoveSpeed" or "-ms", displays the current movespeed value of the selected unit.

Also, regarding the Siphon Mana auto skill. Can flying hunters not have that? Because sometimes I level up stats instead. I think stats is good occasionally over siphon mana. Good patch nonetheless.

Is there any benefit to randoming anymore if the gold/lumber gain is the same?
Polar wrath weaksauce, but tolerable with windwalk default.
Minions being faster, now THAT'S scary.

Actual numerical values for attack and movement speed greatly helpful instead of being told fast or very fast (Step up your game, WC3). Also, I hate how cooldown and duration for spells don't have proper time values shown instead of the bar or rotating visual (can always ask Blizzard to patch it in if they aren't too busy focused on their more modern popular titles).

More seeds, more greeds! But in reality, there are still many spots that allow one to place 4,5, or 6 workers while the majority of others allow 2 or 3. Does that hurt or help the game?

Maybe the camera should be locked by default?

In conclusion, Tauren stonk, Demonologist gold-hungry, Tool-tips will be the end of us all.

-ms is easily implementable, -as isn't feasible to implement (see here).
I think stats is a weird skill to have on Hunters anyway as they already get stats when they level up. To be honest, Hunters really need a shake up to be more useful and to have more thought put into them.

Randoming for Titan gives you a 100% chance of a random item.
Randoming for Defender gives you a 15% chance of an HP tome and a 5% chance of a speed buff.

Seeding - It got to the stage in 3.0.9d where you could have two basers seed their entire worker force. That's insane feed for the Titan, so yeah seeds were reduced.

Camera - maybe.

Tooltips is something I still need to work on. Planning on having them all upload themselves to the website and then be downloaded when I compile the map. Editing them inside the World Editor is a pain in the arse.

@uakf.b could you upload 0102a to ENTID? Thanks!


EDIT: Changed map version to 0102a to fix a few issues, should be good to go live now.

EDIT: Titan Hunter's seem to prefer picking Siphon Mana over Blink (which is pretty bad). I'll put a hotfix patch out soon, just waiting for any more bugs to come in.
