Granitacles Suggestion

Postby Lynx » Mon Sep 07, 2015 7:00 pm

Alright.
I think the 3.0.9d Granitacles is boring. It's tasteless, his skills are essentially healing ward, stats, stun, observer ward, nuke, and avatar. A pretty basic kit if you ask me. I want to spice granitacles up a bit and make him more "naturey". Here's my suggestion:

                      Image
Model:
He looks op with a club

Image Slow "Tree sap":
This skill applies a passive slow to the receiver of Granitacles' attacks. Also enables Granitacles to pick up a tree which grants him siege damage and truestrike for 15 hits. Cooldown 1 minute. (make trees re-grow every minute so you can't remove more than 1 tree at a time).

Image Scout "Tree spirit":
Granitacles takes control over a tree's spirit, gaining 700 air and true vision around it. Lasts for 1minute, cooldown 25 seconds.

Image Escape "Nature's guise":
Makes Granitacles invisible for 1 minute, 3 minute cooldown.

Image Nuke "Hurl boulder":
600/650/700 range ground target nuke with a 275/300/350 aoe, 130/150/180 damage. Units or structures hit by the nuke also suffer a 3/4/5 armor loss.

Image Heal "Grow Tree!":
Spawns a tree which regenerates HP as fast as healing wards. It's a structure with fortified armor and 200/500/700/900 health points. Towers may attack it.

Image Unique "Taunt":
Forces all nearby structures in a 600 radius to attack Granitacles for 3/5 seconds, if they can't target Granitacles, they can not attack at all.

Image Ultimate "Greater Cleave": Granitacles' attack cleaves nearby structures doing 40% damage to the structures/units next to the structure/unit that is being attacked.

Image Minion Model:
changed to a more "naturey" style to fit in better.

Escape:Unchanged from 3.0.9d
Nuke: Unchanged from 3.0.9d
Summons Unchanged from 3.0.9d (model change could be nice)
Heal "Energy slam": Slams the ground in a 350 area of effect and burst heals units inside of it. 200/300/400 burst heal per unit inside slam area.
Rage: Unchanged from 3.0.9d

Note: numbers can be tweaked for balance.

But +stats were what made him retarded a unique individual! ):

I suppose giving him the tree club won me over immediately but I like these suggestions. Dunno what @Neco had in mind if anything yet

Reduced armor to buildings and truestrike seems very overpowered. The true strike in itself completely negates any reason to get Hermit Crab, and completely counters the strongest part about Goblin walls. With a cooldown of just 1 minute and a 15 hit duration, depending on your build, that means you can be halfway through the base's walls before being affected by miss chance, and by the time you fall back almost half of the cooldown will be over.

Edit:
Wow. SIege damage.

Nah his name is now Terminus and the poor of him will end lauching dark stuff like demo lil sister (dem lore changes).
BTW, love the club idea too, but I guess siege damage is too op (130% more damage per hit, wut?). limit it to giving him more damage, or perhaps giving him some bash chance (not recommended), or maybe his ultimate would just be grab the club forever giving him some bonus to dps im some sort of way?

True strike won't be overpowered if cooldown is increased, and as I said numbers can be tweaked. Changing damage type to Normal (70% to fort. instead of 50%) is probably more balanced. Negative armor won't be OP since when it's -5 armor the walls are already up in the 20-25 armor category, but then again, numbers can be tweaked.

Thoughts on the concept? @followingpath

If terminus will be that much different we might as well separate the 2 into a titan each.

I'm all for changing him, and if not anything else there is at least something to go on thanks to your initiative.

Tree Sap
I've pretty much shared my thoughts on this. I like the idea of a club that changes him in some way, it'll add variety to the titans. I just don't think negating evasion is a good idea for Island Defense, even if you increased the cooldown. Perhaps making the club part of his ultimate would balance it more, I don't know.

Tree Spirit
Not much to say here, it's fairly similar to his old scouting ability. It might require a longer duration though, since it feels like its primary use will be to scout builders running around the map and bases being built. 1 minute is not very much. Also:
Will builders be able to see when a tree is under the influence of "Tree Spirit" if they have vision of the tree?

Nature's Guise
Standard.

Hurl Boulder
Not a fan of the reduced armor. It really feels like another variant of Bubonicus' nuke that will provide very easy mound kills.

Grow Tree!
Mainly just have questions for this one:
What level is required to skill it?
What size is it?
Are units able to pass through it?

My primary concern is that titan will be able to ward block at level 2 for free.

Taunt
I like this one. Makes sieging with minions more effective.

Greater Cleave
I like it. It's simple and makes him more effective at sieging. Not much else to say, really. It's an ultimate fit for Granitesticles.

I figured it didn't make much sense that if you had a large tree, you would miss your hits.

I wanted it to be a more of a skill to scout over cliffs and trees, in the early game when you need to scout lumberbases, seeds etcetera. I think it would be best if builders didn't see anything, the cast animation should make it clear which tree is being targeted.

I added it mainly for reduced armor to structures, a change to 0/0/5 negative armor would change it so it's used to siege more effiecient, rather than farming for minions.

Same level as heals for other titans.
I was thinking same size as demonic pillar (1.5x1.5).
No.
It would have a cast time of 0.5 seconds so it wouldn't be used easily as a free wardblock.

I thought granite was already pretty unique. Don't really want to get into redoing titan ideas but I just thought I'd pop in to say this:

Cleave would probably be really overpowered. I can think of a few ways to abuse it but lets just say granite makes its through 3 walls with his true strike ability which would be like 9-10 hits late game and then hits the back wall. The towers behind the wall would die before the wall did. Even though he never actually breaks the base its game over because of cleave. Likewise cleave would basically negate all summons from merchant vs granite and all demo summons. Given most base layouts he could hit your wall and kill your hunters with the cleave w/o even breaking. Imo it's just too game breaking :/ Loved the idea but when you think about it there's quite a lot of ways to abuse it lol.

Tbh, I think Granitcles is fine as a unique titan, but I really love these suggestions and they keep me entertained, and might be used in the future, so don't stop making these titan/builder suggestions.

Right now, in terms of balance, I think what he really needs is to decrease cast time of minion nuke, increase cast range, increase damage/radius of main nuke, and he'd be legit.

Of course it is game breaking if you don't counter it :D . Isn't Voltrons ultimate more game breaking if you don't counter it? To enlight you on how you would counter this abusive spell I'll give you a simple tip. Want to base vs Granitacles? Wall your base deep-style. Want to attack with summons vs Granitacles? Micro your units so the cleave damage doesn't hit every unit.

He can already kill the hunter with nukes if he'd want, why is nuking not game breaking while cleaving is? Besides you can position your hunter so it doesn't get cleaved.

Cleave damage after reductions to other buildings would be 30 damage from a 200 damage hit. Judge how you want, I don't consider it to be over powered since Lucidious ultimate does 50dps to nearby structures.

Code: Select all

200x0.7=140
140x0.5445=76.23
76.23x0.4=30.492

200 is his damage
0.7 is armor type reduction
0.5445 is armor reduction (20)
0.4 is cleave damage

Granitacles was only unique in the way that he was different than the other titans. He wasn't unique in terms of skills, he is basically the result of what developers do when they are out of ideas. 2/4/6 +stats, healing ward, observer ward, stun, nuke, avatar, how is that unique :? . I just think not utilizing Granitacles club model is a waste of potential.

I just want to stir up the meta so you don't keep repeating the same things over and over again. The only Titans who makes builders change their style of playing is Moltenious and Voltron. The ideal for Island Defense for me would be that you would have to play different as a builder versus every Titan in order to win, this is just a small step towards it.

It's 40% of the damage that is dealt to the wall. 30 damage. But then again numbers can be balanced, comment rather on the concept.

I didn't actually change much, just gave him a club and changed his ultimate and swapped stats for taunt. A refreshing new idea with same nostalgic Granitacles!

40% is definitely OP, but then again, most ultis are OP. The other ulti comarable to 40% cleave is Breezerious Ulti, which is OP as FUCK. Basically GG inducing.
