Hold your horses guys. To begin with I never said I wanted to be the editor of Island Defense, I only said I could help out with it as co-editor or something similar like that, so I am not taking up Neco's position, leaving him, unless he, himself, makes that happen. I offered my help to Neco, and last time (a month or so back) he did not seem willing to accept it and I guess that is the case all the way to this point, and quite a while forward as well.
Now there are reasons I don't want to become the only editor of Island Defense, them being following:
1) If Neco does not want help or co-editor it's his decision and I will respect it, no matter if I had the chance to choose otherwise.
2) My university is starting in roughly 20 days, and currently I am on a vacation, so I have no idea how much free time I will have later on, and I do not want to disappoint myself, or you (community), for not doing as much work as I previously did. Now notice that this might be the case with Neco as well, he might be busy at the moment and just have no time for Island Defense, and will continue once he has time for it again.
3) Editor-knowledge. Now this is a bit tricky one. I don't feel like I couldn't handle editing Island Defense, but there are some limits. I have very little to no understanding on scripting/coding, and that is the way of triggering Island Defense uses (or should use in any case) and thus if huge parts of the game are coded in such a way, I am unable to change them, at least directly. Meaning for example the Feed Calculation System, I have a hunch it's completely coded without any use of GUI or easy-to-read lay outs, so I have no way of changing them, meaning I would have to rely on my coder friends/contacts and be a burden in a way.
For those of you who don't know about editor, triggers can be done in a few ways:
GUI (Graphical User Interface) = A way of triggering (I can do this), but it's somewhat limited and not as efficient as the other ways.
Jass (Blizzard's Scripting -thing) = An efficient way of triggering (I can't do this), but it is time consuming and mistakes cost a lot.
vJass (community-improved Jass) = The most efficient way of triggering (I can't do this), no idea how it differs from Jass to be honest.
@BurnWhat is his editing background? Other games?
Not sure what you mean by "other games" but if I haven't done or been doing any other real stand-alone game, but I've been playing quite a few: Warcraft III (Frozen Throne), Gothic Series, Skyrim, Mount & Blade (Warband), Witcher 2 & 3, Half-Life series, Portal series, Counter-Strike Global Offensive, League of Legends any numerous other games with less impact. Also, I've played way too much Tibia (2D ORPG) and probably will continue playing it at some point of time.
My editing background: I've been playing around with the editor for somewhere between 9 and 7 years (can't remember exactly), mostly doing Terrain and Object Designing. I joined The Hive Workshop in the beginning of 2011, slowly starting to create new and publish new maps, mostly Melee maps. You can check my maps
here. I am not sure if Hive log-in is required, I don't think so.
Apart from melee maps I've also created a puzzle map "Dungeon Secrets" that has quite long and rumbly road behind it. It's not completely finished for a few reasons one being the rumbly path it has walked but as it is almost finished I can recommend it (most likely people won't get to the end any way =D)
Those are projects I made myself and in addition to those I've made quite a few request terrains and helped out those in need.
I also worked on Shadows of the Past (a Hive Workshop hosted project which was extremely ambitious) as Object Designer and what I'd call community manager. The project died after a couple of years in development because the team were from all around the world with different time schedules and the main creator/author 's private reasons.
How many games roughly has he played?
I assume you mean Island Defense here, I've played somewhere close to 4000 or so matches of Island Defense but that is in the course of last 5 or so years (3000 of them were from the time StiD was still alive (is it still, idk?) I played under the nick-name "Palmun_Pilkkoja". I am not sure if the amount of games is bigger since the host-bot along with the informations changed quite a few times.
Experience? Knowledge? Balancing / Meta ?
I honestly don't know what you mean right here, can you be more specific?
Co-editor references?
Well most likely
-Kobas- (the author of Shadows of the Past) would be a referee of mine, but he is quite trouble-some to catch as he isn't very active in the Warcraft 3 community (working on a stand-alone game at the moment).
Other people who could tell something positive about me are
Kam, whom I created a few map terrains for, for his Altered Melee called "Beyond the Throne" or "BtT".
Also started a little co-production with
Rufus this spring, but the project isn't moving anywhere at the time for he's taking a break from Warcraft for personal reasons. I am also not sure if he would be a referee as our co-production is so little even up to this point.
I don't think there are more people who would give me reference, (I've tried to keep my projects quite self-dependant), but you can go to Hive and ask people there (in chat for example), if you can find opinions of me somewhere, it's there.
Now remember my answer in the beginning of this post.
