The primary changes are reworks to Extra Chance and Combine. Two of the goals in redesigning Extra Chance were to streamline its usage and to make cold streaks less common. As such, the need to invest in Extra Chance has been removed. Instead, there is now a bonus that increases when you miss your intended target. This bonus will continue to grow and make it much more likely than before to be offered the target. Additionally, Extra Chance will remain active for the entire placement round.
Another goal was to introduce new downsides, as well as potential upsides, to Extra Chance. When using Extra Chance for a Perfect, a player will now have a greater chance to get a gem of any quality of that type and not just the Perfect. When using it for a Slate, a player will no longer be offered the target slate directly but rather the components that can make the slate. These changes should cause players to reconsider Extra Chance as more than just a set and forget tool.
In regards to Combine, its functionality has been split. There are now distinct Combine (2x) and Combine (4x) actions. In addition, a new Combine (3x) has been added that is functionally equivalent to Combine (4x) (that is, it will skip a quality). In combination with the rework to Extra Chance, this should yield a greater number of Greats than previously was possible.
