Updates - June 17, 2012

Postby uakf.b » Sun Jun 17, 2012 8:29 pm

Here are some updates on how the DotA tournament will go.

First of all, registration will end on July 5th, and the first qualifier rounds will begin on July 8th.

All tournament times will be broadcasted in CST (central standard time) timezone. To convert this to equivalent times in your timezone:
  • EST (eastern standard time): one hour ahead (i.e., if it's 6:00 pm CST, it's 7:00 pm EST)
  • MDT (mountain): one hour behind
  • PDT (Pacific): two hours behind

Each game in the first round will take place at one of the time periods below, and will be moderated by a Clan ENT admin and, possibly, a volunteer streamer. The links to see the stream will be available in the ENT chat room on demand.
  • 11:00 am - 12:30 pm CST
  • 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm CST
  • 2:30 pm - 4:00 pm CST
  • 8:00 pm - 9:30 pm CST
  • 9:30 pm - 11:00 pm CST

The top prize will be $100 for the winning team. There will be other prizes available, including champion status (to skip hosting queue and get special highlighted name on the forums), Diablo III beta key, channels and tags on Ventrilo, and possibly more.

By qualification game I'm assuming you mean first round, and you realize there are 8 matches, not 5 or however many times you just posted, and starting it that early doesn't really make sense in the day, some people have work etc. Also you can run 4 or 5 matches at once, just stream a couple at random, depending on how many streamers you have.

EDIT: it's on Sunday, so actually i doubt people have work, but having set times like that is just doomed to failure.

The teams will be given a few date/time combinations to choose from, and based on when they can play we'll decide the final schedule.
Also, some teams may not be within the timezones listed above, so morning might not actually be morning for them.

For the next tournament, asking each team to list their timezone may also be helpful, but getting in touch with 16 teams, none of whom seem to be active in the site at all except to register their team, to ask them what time is best for them, THEN trying to pair them up with another team.. I do not envy the tournament directors having to deal with that task.

It was a rush process, and consider this is our "1st DotA Tournament" that we have ever done with.
So I guess, the community has to get used to the fact that we are trying our best to make this tournament happen.

I'm not blaming you or anything, it's just with these things the simpler the better I've found.

By the way, all players participating in the tournament will have two options to join games: they'll be able to join through EntConnect on the website (not available yet) or through battle.net. If you choose to join through battle.net, you'll have the additional option of using GProxy++ for reconnections (GProxy++ reconnects will be enabled for the tournament games).

EntConnect will require Java >=6.0 (maybe 5.0 will suffice, I'm not sure), but it's recommended you use battle.net.

Yes, it's not July 5 yet.
