Hosting Games from WC3 with WC3Connect

You can now host games directly from WC3 with WC3Connect, similar to the way you can host games on Battle.net with the 1.30.1 patch.

The 1.30.2 patch changes this method of hosting. Instead of players directly connecting to you, they connect through a Blizzard proxy. This means you may have very high ping if you're outside North America / Europe / small parts of Asia.

To host with WC3Connect, follow these steps (you must be on 1.30.1 patch, not 1.30.2):
  • Get WC3Connect, create an account, and login
  • Under Settings, check "Enable Hosting from LAN" (if you don't see this option, get the latest version of the app)
  • Set up port forwarding for your Warcraft III game port (configured in Warcraft III -> Options -> Gameplay); see Wikihow for a guide
  • Open up Warcraft III, go to Local Area Network, and create a game
  • Other players should now be able to join your game by selecting it from the Unmoderated section in WC3Connect. They will connect directly to your WC3, so if they are in the same geographic region as you, they should have low ping.

This functionality is still in beta; please post here or let us know on our Discord if you run into any issues. Also let us know if it works!

Color me impressed. When's this app due to leave the Beta and go into the full release?

Is it only 1.30.1 specific? What about patches that come after 1.30.2.

Blizzard has changed many things after the 1.30.1 patch.
We cannot use our hosting bots on official servers.

Had a curious issue with a friend just now, regardless of who hosted, the game would drop us 15-30 seconds later. Not user error (ie. alt+a), it occurred repeatedly, consistently.
It did not occur while downloading.
Client received the following on wc3connect's STDOUT:

Code: Select all

2023/07/02 17:33:34 [conn] error reading remote: read tcp LOCAL:39934->REMOTE:6112: i/o timeout
2023/07/02 17:33:34 [conn] error reading local: read tcp 127.0.0.1:7112->127.0.0.1:55212: use of closed network connection

Second one seems normal, I see it whenever I quit for any reason, but I think first one is relevant. Actually I think second one usually shows real IPs, not localhost?
Host receives nothing.
The join is complete, we can see each other in slots correctly, can speak to each other.
Both of us can join host bots without this issue, but I don't think either of us have proved that we can join local-hosted games without it.
Hmm, ok, just confirmed it also happens with someone else joining my game, so it's not something between us directly.

When I join I see it attempting to do a spoof check:

Code: Select all

2023/07/02 17:31:29 [conn] using hostcounter=2
2023/07/02 17:31:29 [conn] user requesting 475, local username=Zergling_man, connecting to REMOTE:6112
2023/07/02 17:31:30 found pid=2
2023/07/02 17:31:31 [conn] requesting spoofcheck Zergling_man -> Local Game (Raugg)

I wonder if that's related? Are spoof checks meant to occur with local-hosted games?
