Re: Java enabled, but still problem
That's because some of the newer versions of chrome and firefox (maybe opera as well) no longer have native support for java. Internet Explorer seems to be the only browser that I know of that seems to actively support it.

Re: Java enabled, but still problem
If your are interested in the technical background:
The problem is the Netscape Plugin Application Programming Interface (NPAPI). It's a very old interface, invented 1995, that enabled programmers to create browser extentions. This Interface is used by java applets or flash applications to run in the browser. Unfontunatly there were always security issues with NAPI, which were used by hackers and viruses. Furthermore new web-technologies replaced NPAPI in many areas. Thats why many browsers stopped the support of NPAPI-Plugins. Opera and Chrome does not support NPAPI any more. Some Versions of the Internet Explorer still do. Firefox is only supporting Flash Plugins.
Because of this development Java will stop the support of applets aswell. With Version 9 Applets are deprecated and will be removed in future versions.
