Unable to join roommate's game

My username is sadfacerofl, his is UprootedEagle. We're both on US East. We live in the same apartment and use ethernet that is plugged into the walls. When we log into battle.net and one of us creates a game, the other can't join it but random people can join it. Does it have something to do with us being on the same network? We also tried to play on local area network, but that didn't work either.

As the public hosting bots are back online, is this still an issue?
