Warcraft III - Fatal Error Cx0000005

Postby Rienskje » Mon Jun 09, 2014 2:34 am

Hope it's ok I'm posting this here.

Since yesterday I cannot launch Warcraft III anymore, this is what it says:
_________________________________________________
This application [...] critical error:

FATAL ERROR!

Program: [...]\war3.exe
Exception: 0xC0000005 (ACCESS_VIOLATION) at
0023:03CEFC10

The instruction at '0x03CEFC10' referenced memory at
'0x03CEFC10'.
The memory could not be 'read'.

Press OK to terminate the application.
_________________________________________________

The only thing I did - since the last time it worked - was installing Worms Armageddon.
So I removed it, but that didn't change anything. (Sadly, I'm no pro concerning computers.)
After a few hours searching the web for help, the only changes were that the memory "location" changed and sometimes it said "written" instead of "read".

Someone said this can happen because of poorly written software, which could be the patch for Worms Armageddon (released 13 years after launch in 1999). I installed CC-Cleaner in hope to erase remnants of this patch, yet I don't know if that's possible.

1) Has anyone experienced and solved similar issues?
2) Is there a way to repair this instruction/memory at 0x03CEFC10 manually?
3) What could be other possible reasons?
4) What other forums could I ask in?

Regards,
Rienskje

Looks like your Worms install has overwritten a part of your wc3 files. If you reinstall it it should work again.

No. I didn't ever use cheats or engines or smth if that's what you mean.

I found a registry entry which contained files (keys?) pointing to Worms Armageddon and Warcraft III. Can I find out if that is connected to this '0x03CEFC10' location?

Not sure if I can help you, but let's see :P

I installed CC-Cleaner in hope to erase remnants of this patch, yet I don't know if that's possible.

You shouldn't use that tool because it often removes more than it should.

I found a registry entry which contained files (keys?)

What's the full registry path to this specific key/entry?

Do I also interpret it correctly, that this is the first time you played the map and it causes this error (on every game you play?)?

1) Doubleclick ROC or TFT
2) The smaller logo window appears (with the face and copyright)
3) As usual, a short black screen, but instead of the menu:
4) Error sound. Nothing.
5) Have to change back to desktop.
6) Error window.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\UFH

Thank you very much for your effort. I'm dying here.

Well, I don't know, sorry :P
Maybe e-mailing the blizzard support will help, not sure how active and helpful they usually are (for their old games).

Other than that you could try (just some wild guesses, no promise to help) ...
Uninstall again
Delete all remaining files you can find
Run a registry clean program
Download the patched WC3 version from battle.net
Install again

@Rienskje

What you are experiencing is not an issue related to techincal problems from ENT.
I do not know the definite cause of your issue or whether your worm virus or w/e is still affecting you.

Reformat your computer and reinstall wc3.
