Ban Requests

Postby MoguL » Sun Apr 14, 2013 5:00 am

I believe that in order to protect the integrity of a ban request to suggest that if a moderator is the victim of the offense in question, they should not be allowed to process the ban. Rather, they should be required to post it in Ban Requests for another moderator to make judgement on. This will remove bias and any possible admin abuse that arises from unfair, biased opinions.

Well there are times where the opinion itself will probably not be biased, but I agree that we should have another admin look at it just to have an objective third party opinion on the case in question. There have been ban requests where I have been wrong and admitted to it so this might cut down on any potential complaints. I am for this suggestion.

What do you mean by victim? If someone is maphacking on other team or feeding on their team, is that considered them being victim?

I believe he means:
If the moderator is the one making the request, "Is the victim" , that another mod should look at it to process it, to eliminate bias.

Well we already have that rule applying to maphacking so this suggestion shouldn't be related to MH.

So in other words, suggestion is to require moderator other than OP to confirm all ban requests; so if a moderator posts a ban request, another moderator has to confirm it, and if a non-mod posts one then it's the same as currently.

Exactly. I don't know if you were following, but lately there was some power abusing that I feel this rule would essentially eliminate.

To get admin staff isn't so easy, the person should make ban requests to get in, the staff will be able to understand what the new admin wants to do in ENT games.. if the guy is an ENT admin, he has the free will to do w/e he wants however everyone in staff has access to the log to see what the admin is doing..
So no big deal, if the guy abuses, his admin will be removed.
I don't think we need to spam the forum to each simple ban.. :3

I totally agree to mogul suggestion and hope that it can be in effect ASAP. I was in that situation the other day and I believe myself to be 90% right. And the mod think he was right and automatically just banned me. I lost play time and sittin there being upset cause I couldn't play. The whole point is that the banning could wait, and to be judge by other mod to makes sure it fair to do so

All I know is that in the real world, justice isn't determined by the "victim", it's determined by a non-biased third party. It would be a good idea to model your system after this as well. On top of that, it's a whole lot easier to review something and ban someone than to have to deal with the drama that goes along with admin abuse.

Can we please give admins a reading and writing test also? I can hardly understand some of them and, correct me if I'm wrong, these are predominantly English forums, right?

I wholeheartedly agree with this statement. !Support

What does being a Native American have to do with anything? Just because they have casinos they can speak better English?

Okay. I am friends with MoguL, but I'll prevent a bias opinion.

Uak is pretty much correct. There is no need to spam forum due to staff decisions. If they abuse their power, make a complaint and it will be dealt with in a discussion amongst the other moderators.

Esentially, admins are given discretion to act accordingly to the rules and even inturpret them in their own way. Sometimes they are wrong, sometimes they are right and sometimes they abuse their power.

I have noticed an increase in admins abusing their power in games, but I think this is primarily due to a large variety of moderators. Statistically, it is bound to happen. And as far as I know, they have been dealt with swiftly, so I do not see an imediate need to have admins ask permission to kick/ban people who are playing in the same games.

So please report them, we have game and lobby logs.
Any form of abuse is not tolerate.
MoguL wrote:Can we please give admins a reading and writing test also?
For what purpose? I'll quote agreements.
Agreements wrote:I see the point, however i do not think just because there is a few (2-8) complaints in a month that we should resort to such measure.
And some complaints not even worth..
I can be considered a good admin still I make mistakes. What shall I do? recognize them and learn to not do that again.
So, what happened in your game there's nothing we can't do to prevent that *admin abusing on his powers*, sometimes the admin is mad and he will curse, votekick, kick, ban, plant a c4 in your neightbour.. and what we can do? we can sit, watch and say goodbye to the admin. ¬¬
Resuming... your suggestion (is always welcome) but this one, is pointless to me.

i disagree with this suggestion. i think if i were to post a ban request on someone then as an ent staff member they trust my judgment. however in the case of MH'ers we already make another admin look at it. but in the case mentioned above i think it was handled the right way for those instances. if you are wrongfully banned then you make a ban appeal. and if a moderator is abusing his power like he did then you make a complaint against him and we'll handle it. you dont have to fill a complaint either if you want to be a little discrete cuz you dont want to draw attention to yourself you are more than welcome to whisper me or any one of our members and we will help guide you in the right direction of what to do. and once you have done all you can do on said subject we will handle it from there and let you know whats going on. there is 100% transparency with everything any GM or admin does between us so anything we do wrong will be addressed at some point. for instance the other day, i banned someone for a month. not to go into detail i banned him for a month and moved to processed. this was seen and talked about with me, i retracted my month ban and lowered it down. the point is most of the time things are handled behind closed doors per say. but if ever someone is abused there is actions taken publicly. i hope this makes sense lol i kinda typed it really fast.
