Stand-alone because WC3 costs money for CD-key. SC2ID is still pretty popular even with SC2 being pay to play and having a really bad world editor and being a terrible game in general. If ID is made into a DotA2 custom game or turned into a stand-alone ID game with a better world editor than WC3, then I can see ID going places.uakf.b wrote:Neco wrote:Uhm, you don't need Valve's permission to do anything? You can simply use the Source SDK for Dota 2 (once it comes out) and make your own standalone (or requiring Dota 2 which is free anyway) game.
Oh cool, didn't know this was out already with SourceMod.js and other wrappers? Or what's http://d2ware.net ?
Edit: ah I see, whatever modding is available atm sucksthen Valve (or some other company) might consider making a stand-alone ID game
What's the point of stand-alone?
ID is both competitive and has a high skill ceiling, which makes ID videos entertaining to watch, which of course is always good for a solid fan base. The only problem is that it also has a high skill floor and also being an extremely competitive game, can put off noobs from playing. Maybe turning the ID loading screen into a tutorial can help this. An example for a good loading screen tutorial can be the sc2id's loading screen.
